9th Ward Spring 2011 Primary Election Wrap up

Overall, candidates supported by the Ninth Ward Democratic Committee did well in the May primary. The ward recommended a different choice in the Eighth District council race, but Cindy Bass, the Nutter-Rendell favorite, stole the show and cruised to an easy victory. For the mayoral race, Michael Nutter received 92% of the ninth ward vote against a reinvigorated Milton Street. I guess Milton would have done better running for astronaut after all.

9th Ward Democratic Committee Endorsement of Verna Tyner

I will go out on a limb and say this year's primary election will go down in the books as one of the most significant events in all of local political history. Thanks largely to the festering sore of the DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan), nearly half of the entire complement of current district city council members has retired or chosen not to run for re-election. The latter group includes, blessedly, our own Donna Reed Miller.
